In 1889 Nordiska museet collected items from the estate of John Ericsson (1803-1889). Ericsson was born in Sweden but lived most of his life in New York City, USA. Through the years John established himself as an well-known inventor. Soon he became a world famous inventor. Ericsson´s most noteable contributions were The steam-engine ”Novelty”, the armoured cruiser ”Monitor” which became famous during the American Civil war, the Caloric engine and the propeller.
